CECILE FILIPE Portuguese , b. 1966

"Never mind grey skies and pale winter suns, for Cecile Filipe, the truth of landscapes lies elsewhere.

But is it the emotions generated by the landscapes around us that inspire her? Not really. It's true that we can recognise here and there, the banks of the Loire, blood-red sunsets, the rustle of a meadow in the wind, liquid variations, and discuss endlessly the rendering of the subtle nuances of nature, but Cécile recognises herself first and foremost in the Portuegues poet Fernando Pessoa, for whom, every state of mind is a landscape; landscapes filled with 'saudade', a melancholy feeling mixed with daydreaming and a desire for imprecise happiness, delicious nostalgia and a longing for elsewhere"
